What a diabetes teddy bear is, and how GluBear is different

A diabetes teddy bear is a comfort toy that helps a child live with Type 1 diabetes. Families search for diabetes stuffed animals, diabetic bears, and CGM teddy bears after a diagnosis. GluBear is a smart diabetes teddy bear for ages 3–12: it connects to the child’s existing CGM (Dexcom or FreeStyle Libre) through GluApp and shows glucose as green (in range), yellow (check soon), and red (needs attention). It is a general-wellness secondary display, not a CGM, insulin pump, or primary alarm.

Classic diabetes bears vs a smart diabetes teddy bear

Toys like Jerry the Bear and Rufus, the Bear with Diabetes help children learn T1D care through pretend play. They are beloved comfort toys and are not connected to a real CGM. GluBear is the connected version of that idea: a plush companion that links to the child's actual Dexcom or FreeStyle Libre data through GluApp and shows live status as soft lights.

Who GluBear is for

GluBear is designed for children ages 3–12 with Type 1 diabetes and their families. It is meant to sit beside the CGM, not instead of it. Parents, caregivers, and school nurses can view trends in GluApp. Kids get games and stories in Kids Zone.

What GluBear is not

GluBear is not a CGM, an insulin pump, or a primary medical alarm. It does not measure glucose. It is not an FDA-cleared or FDA-approved medical device. It is designed on an FDA general-wellness and secondary-display pathway, is HIPAA-compliant, and is COPPA-safe.
