Help for kids who are scared of glucose checks

GluBear is built for children who feel anxious about glucose checks and finger pricks. The plush companion, squeezable ears, and green / yellow / red lights turn a clinical routine into comfort and play. Interactive games and stories help with diabetes burnout. GluBear does not replace the CGM, insulin pump, primary alarms, or medical advice. If fear is intense, involve the child’s diabetes care team.
  • Green: in range
  • Yellow: check soon
  • Red: needs attention

Why checks feel scary

Finger sticks, numbers, and nighttime alarms can make Type 1 diabetes feel like a constant clinical task. A child who hates checking blood sugar or is scared of finger pricks is not being difficult. They are coping. Young children often respond better to a soft companion and simple colors than to a phone screen. GluBear is built for that emotional layer, not as a medical replacement.

How lights and play help

Green means in range, yellow means check soon, and red means needs attention. Squeezable ears let kids check in on their own terms. Games and stories in Kids Zone teach habits through play. Parents still use GluApp for trends and the CGM for primary alarms.

School and caregivers

GluApp can support multiple family accounts so parents, grandparents, caregivers, and school nurses can view trends and optional supplemental notifications. Customize access per person. Always rely on the child's CGM for primary medical alerts at school.

Common questions

GluBear is built for kids who freeze at glucose checks. Instead of a number-heavy screen, the diabetes teddy bear uses squeezable ears and green, yellow, and red lights so a check feels like asking a friend, not a clinic task. Games and stories in GluApp and the Kids Zone practice the routine through play. It sits beside the CGM; it does not skip fingersticks or sensors the care team still needs. If fear or school refusal is intense, involve the diabetes care team.

Ready when the child is

GluBear is a general-wellness, educational secondary display. It is not a CGM, insulin pump, or primary alarm, and it is not intended to replace medical advice.
