Glucose management for kids: how a CGM companion works

Glucose management for kids means the prescribed CGM and insulin plan stay in charge. A CGM companion for kids is a secondary display that makes that data understandable. GluBear reads Dexcom or Abbott FreeStyle Libre data through GluApp (a parent glucose-awareness app, not an insulin dosing app) and shows green (in range), yellow (check soon), and red (needs attention). Parents, caregivers, and school nurses can view trends in GluApp. Always rely on the CGM for primary alarms and medical decisions.
  • Green: in range
  • Yellow: check soon
  • Red: needs attention

Glucose management stays on the CGM

  1. The child wears their existing CGM (designed for Dexcom and FreeStyle Libre).
  2. GluApp receives the glucose data and sends it to the GluBear plush.
  3. GluBear shows a soft glow and gentle sounds: green = in range, yellow = check soon, red = needs attention.
  4. Parents, caregivers, and school nurses can view trends in GluApp. GluApp is a companion for glucose awareness, not an insulin dosing app. Always use the CGM for primary alarms.

Secondary display, not a replacement

The CGM measures glucose and sounds medical alarms. GluBear does not measure glucose. It makes the same data friendlier for a child who is not ready for a screen of numbers. Optional supplemental notifications in GluApp are extra, not a substitute for Dexcom or Libre alerts.

Compatibility

GluBear is designed to integrate with major CGM systems including Dexcom and Abbott FreeStyle Libre, with compatibility expanding. No extra sensor is required. The family keeps the CGM they already use.

Common questions

GluBear is not a CGM and does not measure glucose. Your child's Dexcom or FreeStyle Libre still does that. GluBear is a CGM companion for kids: GluApp reads the existing CGM data and the teddy shows it as green (in range), yellow (check soon), and red (needs attention), plus gentle sounds. The CGM is the medical device and primary alarm. GluBear is the comfort and education layer beside it.

Ready when the child is

GluBear is a general-wellness, educational secondary display. It is not a CGM, insulin pump, or primary alarm, and it is not intended to replace medical advice.
