What GluBear is for, and what it must never be

If you remember one thing: the monitor still runs the emergency. The bear is a companion beside it.

GluBear · 2026-08-26

  • Green: in range
  • Yellow: check soon
  • Red: needs attention

Secondary means beside, not instead

GluBear reads glucose data from a child’s existing CGM through GluApp. It then shows lights and optional gentle sounds. The CGM still measures. The CGM app still alarms. If those two jobs ever feel optional, the product is being used wrong.

The short list of no

  • Not a CGM.
  • Not an insulin pump.
  • Not a primary medical alarm.
  • Not an FDA-cleared or FDA-approved medical device.
  • Not an insulin dosing app, bolus calculator, or pump controller.
  • Not a substitute for clinician advice.

It is designed on an FDA general-wellness and secondary-display pathway, HIPAA-compliant, and COPPA-safe. That is the legal and safety frame, not marketing garnish.

Who still holds the night

Parents and school nurses should keep CGM follower alerts as the medical layer. GluApp trends and optional supplemental pings are extra. When glucose is dangerous, follow the prescribed device and the care plan, not the color of a stuffed animal.

Gadgets are not the education hour

New sensors and pumps do not replace a CDCES, a clinic visit, or a 504 plan. Many families still wait a long time for structured diabetes education. GluBear is not that program. It is a kid-facing layer while adults keep the medical and teaching work.

Keep the CGM as the medical layer

GluBear is a general-wellness, educational secondary display. It is not a CGM, insulin pump, or primary alarm, and it is not intended to replace medical advice.

  • The point of new diabetes tech is fewer hard moments, not more screens
