GluApp mobile app

This guide is for the GluApp iOS and Android app. It is also in the app under Settings → Help → User Guide. Website shop and KidsZone have separate privacy and terms.

GluApp & GluBear — User Guide

Audience: Parents, caregivers, and adult users Product: GluApp mobile app + optional GluBear companion (hardware bear with chip) Support: hello@myglubear.com Legal: Privacy · Terms (GluApp mobile app policy; also in-app under Settings → About) Web copy of this guide: myglubear.com/app/user-guide In-app: Settings → Help & Support

Safety first. GluApp and GluBear are not intended to replace primary CGM alarms or medical advice. They are secondary displays and educational/comfort tools. Always keep your CGM system’s built-in alerts enabled and follow your care team’s emergency plan. For a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

2. Accounts & first-time setup

2.1 Create a parent (or adult) account

  1. Open GluApp → Create Account.
  2. Enter name, email, password, and phone (optional).
  3. Choose experience:
  • Kids / family mode (default): Parent PIN required for Settings; playful Home and Learn.
  • Adult mode: Check “I want to use this app as an adult” — no Parent PIN gate; adult home layout.
  1. In kids mode, set a 4-digit Parent PIN and write it down (you’ll need it for Settings).
  2. Accept Terms and Privacy (includes medical/secondary-monitoring notices).
  3. Verify email if prompted, then sign in.

Also available: Sign in with Google or Apple; Forgot Password; biometric unlock after first password login.

2.2 Add a child or care profile

During onboarding or later via Settings → Children / Care Profiles → Add:

  • Name, date of birth, gender, diabetes type, CGM type, insulin type, target range (low/high).

You can add more profiles later and switch the active profile from Settings, or from the blue dropdown on the Glucose graph legend (PIN-gated in kids mode).

2.3 Parent PIN

  • Required to open Settings in kids mode (session lasts about 5 minutes).
  • Manage under Settings → Privacy & Security.
  • Forgot PIN: use in-app Forgot PIN / Reset PIN flows.

2.4 Subscription

  • Typical offer: 30-day free trial, then $8.99/month (App Store / Google Play).
  • Manage: Settings → Subscription (status, restore purchases, open store subscription settings to cancel).
  • Invite up to 10 followers/caregivers on the parent plan.
  • Followers use a limited viewer experience and do not replace the parent subscription.

2.5 First Guide (live tour)

After registration, GluApp opens a show-only First Guide (also: Settings → Help → Start Tutorial). It walks real screens with numbered tips for kids and grown-ups. You do not have to tap app buttons during the tour — only Next / Back / Skip. Then explore on your own (connect CGM, alerts, etc. when ready).

3. Connect a CGM

Path: Settings → Devices → Connect CGM (or the Libre guided flow).

Dexcom Share

  1. In the Dexcom app, turn Share on and add at least one follower (you can follow yourself).
  2. In GluApp, choose Dexcom; enter Share username/email and password.
  3. Select US or Outside US.
  4. Connect, then confirm readings on Home.

FreeStyle Libre / LibreLinkUp

  1. Install the Libre app and start your sensor.
  2. Use the same email for LibreLinkUp as for GluApp.
  3. Libre app: Profile → Share My Health Data → LibreLinkUp → invite that email.
  4. Open LibreLinkUp and accept the invite.
  5. Sign into GluApp with the same credentials (or use the guided Libre connect screen).
  6. Stuck? Settings → Devices → Troubleshoot.

Nightscout

  1. Enter your Nightscout site URL and API secret (if required).
  2. Ensure the site is reachable, then test connection.

After connect: Home and Glucose show current value, trend, and history. You can Switch Device, check Connections Health, or disconnect from Devices.

4. Connect GluBear (hardware)

Path: Settings → Devices → GluBear → setup / pair.

  1. Charge and power on GluBear; keep it nearby.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth on the phone.
  3. Android 12+: Allow Bluetooth scan/connect when prompted. GluApp does not use GPS for pairing.
  4. Scan → select your GluBear → follow on-screen pairing.
  5. Optional Wi‑Fi: enter SSID/password (or Skip). Wi‑Fi is for companion connectivity when the phone is away — not primary glucose monitoring.
  6. Wait for provisioning/registration success.

Also:

  • GluBear list — rescan / reconnect existing devices.
  • GluBear Voice — record or send preset encouragement messages to the bear.

Reminder: Bear alerts are supplemental. Keep CGM primary alarms on.

12. Troubleshooting

CGM not updating

  • Confirm Share / LibreLinkUp / Nightscout still active in the manufacturer app.
  • Check Connections Health; try disconnect/reconnect or Switch Device.
  • Libre: accept LibreLinkUp invite; use matching email; see Devices → Troubleshoot.

GluBear won’t pair

  • Bear charged and powered on; Bluetooth on; phone near bear.
  • Android: grant Bluetooth scan/connect (not location).
  • Retry scan from GluBear setup or device list; skip Wi‑Fi if unsure, then add later if offered.

No alerts

  • Thresholds enabled and ordered correctly (urgent below/above warning ranges).
  • Notification permission granted; Quiet Hours not silencing everything you expect.
  • Push/email channel enabled; emergency contacts configured if you rely on escalation.
  • Confirm CGM primary alarms still on.

Can’t open Settings (kids mode)

  • Enter Parent PIN; use Forgot PIN if needed.

Subscription / paywall

  • Restore purchases; confirm Apple ID / Google account; manage or renew in the store subscription page.

Something broken

  • Settings → Report a Bug (describe steps and expected vs actual).
  • Email hello@myglubear.com.
